Hermit Crabs Get New Shells

Image
As focused as the world is on eliminating homelessness on the streets of our cities, one artist noticed a need for housing a for creatures who live a little farther below sea level. Check out the work of Aki Inomata , a Japanese artist who sculpted and photographed clear hermit crab shells decorated with cityscapes. She took each species of crab into consideration when designing the shells so that they would be inhabitable.  The shells are so intricate and beautiful! "The first sunbeam breaks through the haze on the east and colors the valley in golden tones. A few more seconds and thousands of light blades pierce the fog. It is so beautiful and unusual that it seems like you are no longer in the 21st century, but somewhere in the middle of the 19th, flying like the heroes of Jules Verne, to open the unknown …" SEPTEMBER 8, 2013 Airplane Shadow, Ca

Last week, my neighbor and I went for a walk to test out the  Sigma 50-150mm lens that I borrowed from BorrowLenses.com . (See the end of the post for my review.) Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 We walked around Rock Creek Park in the District of Columbia. It had just rained, so the ground was damp and there were some funky smells we experienced while walking the trails.  I decided to try out some slow-shutter shots with the swirling leaves:  The shot below was a click-and-drag; I had the camera set on f/22 for 2 seconds. I focused and lingered on him for a second and then panned the camera horizontally to finish registering the remaining light.  Finally saw this little guy after he crawled away from me. Can you find him?  After using the lens, I really liked how fast and well it focused, even though it was
