Venice, Italy: The City of Food & Lovers

Here are some photos from our apartment in Venice, a first-floor, all-inclusive living space with a kitchen, bathroom, and enough beds for everyone.

It was a little chilly and wet that evening so we bought hot sangria or hot cider to keep us warm while we explored. There are no open container laws in Europe, so we were able to walk around with cups of alcohol. It was delicious!
Then we were still hungry, so we bought a salmon pizza: It wasn't as bad as it sounds!
In the morning, we frequented this one coffee shop around the corner from our apartment. Everyone got coffee, espresso, cappuccino, or tea, and a pastry. This was my breakfast one day: a black tea and a zabaione pastry, which is a dough fritter filled with Marsala-wine pastry cream.

We discovered the fish market! But, alas, it was closed. Contrary to what our guidebook and the internet said, the market was closed on Sundays AND Mondays. We all put it on our list to do next time we're in town.

More gondolas! Only Andrew and Christine took a gondola ride this trip. It was pricey and pretty chilly to be sitting in a boat. Another thing for next time...
The Bridge of Sighs... It's said that when prisoners would walk over this bridge (left to right) from the courthouse to the jail building, they would sigh in acceptance of their fate.

Water is so interesting. The two little hydrogen and one little oxygen molecules flow together in solid (ice), liquid (water), or gas (vapor), and can also pick up traces of sediment or leftovers, depending on which environment it runs through. Paris: The Jewish Quarter, Louvre Courtyard and A Phallic Eiffel Tower

Good morning! Bonjour! Today we went to a small cafe in Bastille called  Cafe Truc , which literally means Cafe "Stuff." It was so cutely decorated and we enjoyed a traditional French breakfast here: croissant, pain du chocolat, tea, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. On our way to the Jewish quarter, we passed a museum with the sculpture below. The exhibit was showing all kinds of street sculpture and I recognized this from an article that was shared with me years ago. It reminded me of the other Bruno Catalano sculptures that were debuted in 2013. Pigeon taking a bath. Under the arches on the Place De Vosges: We made it to the Temple Des Vosges, which is an Orthodox shul in the middle of Paris. We were informed that the seats are full every Shabbat, and they have weddings and other special events there regularly. Paris: An Arch, A Tower, and A River

Bonjour! Another day in Paris... today we decided we wanted to see the tourist-y Arc De Triomphe from the top, the Eiffel Tower, and the Seine River. We started the day with breakfast: fresh croissants and pain au chocolat  bought for us by our host's boyfriend, the aptly-French-named Theibaut. These were so delicious! Flaky and sweet, they hit the spot. We waited in line at the Arc for only about 20 minutes before purchasing our tickets. Then we walked up the spiral staircase: (not for the faint-of-heart, or people with pacemakers) I think that we walked up 7 or 8 flights, but the landings were so small it was hard to tell. When we got to the top, this sculpture was waiting for us: The view from the Arc was breathtaking: it was an overcast day so we were able to see everything in soft light and we were blessed with no rain.
